Let them eat cake. Or, rather: Let me eat cake. Imagine: Being dispatched to Paris in order to cover a “fashion” show where cakes are paraded down the catwalk? I guess someone had to do it, and that someone was me! Actually. It was my idea. Did I try all the flavours? Yes. Did I the interview the macaron- king Pierre Herme? Of course. And did I double check all my research by also tasting what the main competitor Laduree had to offer? Absolutely. A good journalist always looks at the matter from both sides. Frivolous you say? Far from it. The French macaron became a huge trend that still is relevant in the patisserie industry.
